The Bible.
Before you start name-calling and trying to slow-roast me at the stake. I know it’s the greatest story ever written. I know it has lasted all this time with no help.
But I also know this. The story isn’t over. How did we have all the prophets before and now not have any? Who is carrying on? Look at all that has happened since. It doesn’t need a new translation, but shouldn’t it be continued?
The Bible (Old Testament) was actually the first book that came to my mind as well. I don’t know that it needs a sequel per se. Certainly there have been myriad fictions, critical opinions, historical analyses and interpretations written over the centuries that are based upon its ideas, events and characters so I suppose you can say that if one were to undertake such a massive effort, it would take many more than one lifetime to complete it.
That said, if any sequel to the Old Testament were to appear, it might be done if we ever reach a messianic era envisioned by multiple religions that would document the beginning of that event and its ensuing history. Now THAT would be worth documenting, although none of us would be around to read it…
You pose an interesting question. I’ve often wondering the same question. From the perspective of the three monotheistic religions from Abraham (Judaism, Christianity, and Islam) there hasn’t been a new prophet in over 1400 years. There may be a few things updated or clarified … just saying.
